Social Media Policy

The CSA’s social media policy outlines how the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) uses its social media accounts. Below you will find the official platforms the CSA uses as well as information pertaining to our use, moderation, and communication through these platforms.

Terms of use:

By accessing or using the CSA social media sites (including by following, reading, viewing, sharing or otherwise using any associated posts or content), you agree that you have read, understand and agree to be bound by the CSA’s website Terms of Use and the guidelines set out below, as amended from time to time. . If you do not agree with the terms of use, you should refrain from engaging with the CSA’s social accounts. The CSA may change these terms and conditions from time to time by posting the changes on our website. You should review these terms and conditions each time you engage with any of The CSA’s social media pages.

Policy update:

The CSA reserves the right to modify these terms when deemed appropriate. Should you have any questions regarding this policy, email us at csa-acvm-secretariat@acvm-csa.ca.

We accept no responsibility for a lack of service due to social media platform downtime or for any other reason.

What kind of content can you expect from the CSA on its social media platforms:

The CSA will publish content relevant to its work and its members. Content such as:

  • CSA News Releases
  • CSA Investor Alerts and Disciplined Persons notifications
  • Content published by CSA members
  • CSA and members’ events
  • Links to CSA reports or publications
  • Content from other securities regulators and government agencies

Please note that any content coming from the CSA is published in both official languages (English and French). Shared content from other trusted sources may vary in language depending on the source material.

Social media sites as a source of official policy:

Information posted on the CSA’s social media sites should not be considered as the authoritative source of new policy or guidance from the CSA. These are tools to create awareness, share information, and open dialogue when appropriate with the CSA’s intended public. Please refer to the CSA and its members’ websites for official policy and guidance.

Material posted on the CSA’s social media sites is to be used for informational and educational purposes only. The content on the CSA’s social media sites is not intended to provide financial or legal opinions or advice.

Social media platform moderation:

By submitting comments, you acknowledge that the CSA has the right to reproduce, broadcast and publicize those comments or any part thereof in any manner whatsoever.

Comments that are respectful and relevant to ongoing conversations on our social media sites are welcome. The CSA monitors and moderates its social media sites during regular business hours but may not respond to every message, post or comment. The CSA may respond to questions and/or comments directly addressed to it but is under no obligation to do so.

The CSA condemns any form of harassment written attacks, insults, vulgarity or indecency and perpetrators of such materials. The CSA reserves the right to remove, block, hide or delete such comments and individuals. 

The CSA reserves the sole right to review, edit, delete comments and remove or block anyone who posts material it deems inappropriate or that does not comply with our principles or mission.

See below for example of inappropriate behavior on our social media platforms:

  • soliciting investments, commenting on investments, or asking for or offering investment advice
  • commenting on enforcement proceedings
  • hate speech, foul language, defamatory language, or other abusive or offensive remarks
  • accusing individuals or companies of breaking securities laws
  • promotion of products or services
  • off-topic or unintelligible responses
  • embedding code, excessive URLs, or advertisements
  • spam
  • unsupported accusations
  • anonymous comments
  • threats
  • personal attacks
  • violations of someone’s privacy
  • posting content not authored by the sender
  • infringement of copyright rules (including copying and pasting excerpts from other sites without permission and attribution)

Questions and complaints:

We ask that questions, complaints and/or tips, be sent directly to the CSA through official avenues, such as email at csa-acvm-secretariat@acvm-csa.ca),  or by contacting your local securities regulator.

We ask that media requests be sent to the CSA through official avenues such as email at media@acvm-csa.ca Your media request may be re-directed to the relevant jurisdiction.

Following, liking, sharing and retweeting

We tweet, like, post, comment and blog about material we deem of interest to our audiences. These actions should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the originator, the content they post, or of any organization the shared content refers to. A link, follow or like does not imply endorsement of any kind.

The CSA does not retweet or share information from unofficial or unverified sources.

At this time, we do not autofollow. We follow, like and retweet only selected accounts from our partners or stakeholders, and media/influencers which are pertinent and constructive to our work.

The CSA is also not responsible for content that third parties publish, post, upload, distribute, disseminate or otherwise transmit via any of the CSA’s social media sites.
