November SEDAR+ update to support regulatory changes

Hello everyone,

I hope you had a wonderful summer and that you are enjoying a beautiful Canadian autumn. Over the weekend of November 16, the CSA’s latest SEDAR+ quarterly update went live. While most filers and public system users will not notice significant changes to the user experience, we are making updates that enable important regulatory changes for Canada’s capital markets such as the new Proposed Access Model for certain continuous disclosure documents for non-investment fund reporting issuers and the future implementation of the modernization of the prospectus filing model.

SEDAR+ was designed to respond to the evolving needs of market participants and is a vital tool for Canada’s provincial and territorial securities regulators. These regulatory bodies use SEDAR+ to manage and streamline the filing, disclosure and retrieval of regulatory documents related to public companies and investment funds—helping them track compliance with reporting obligations, handle applications and conduct oversight of issuers and market activities.

Just as the needs of market participants are evolving, so too are the needs of regulators. Some of the regulatory changes that have been in the works for years are now feasible because of SEDAR+.  A strong and timely example of this, is the CSA’s Proposed Access Model for Certain Continuous Disclosure Documents for Corporate Issuers. While the consultation has just launched, the SEDAR+ functionality is already implemented and was recently improved to better support issuers and investors alike.

I invite you to read more about the new Proposed Access Model, how it will enhance investors’ awareness of the availability of continuous disclosure documents, and how they can access them on SEDAR+, in the Enhancing electronic access: The CSA’s Proposed Access Model for certain continuous disclosure documents of corporate issuers article provided in this newsletter.
