Who should establish an Agent account?
Agent accounts are designed to be used by third parties on behalf of the issuers or insiders they represent. You must be authorized by the issuer or insider to file on their behalf.
What can I do with an Agent account?
An agent account allows filing agents (such as lawyers or accountants) to report insider trading activity and issuer information on behalf of one or more insiders or issuers.
Effect of filing
Once an account is properly set up insider reports will be available on-line and can be accessed by the general public. Personal information, such as home addresses and telephone numbers, will not be publicly accessible
Do I have to use SEDI?
SEDI is a mandatory disclosure system of insider trading activities and issuer events by SEDI issuers. See National Instrument 55-102 that explains, among other topics, SEDI filing requirements.
Getting started
To use the system, an agent must first create a SEDI user account. You will need the following information:
- User’s name
- Employer’s name
- Business address
- Daytime telephone number (fax and email, if available).
- A security verification question (for example: “The name of my dog when I was a child.”)
- Registering a SEDI account
Registering a SEDI account
Establishing a SEDI account is a six-step process you must complete the process in one session in order to register an account.
Step #1: Fill in the blanks
On the “Welcome to SEDI” page, click “Register as a SEDI user” in the right corner. This will take you to the Register Page with an online registration form (Form 55-102F5). Here are some tips to help you complete that form:
- Make sure that you enter your proper name using upper and lower case letters.
- Do not use nicknames, initials or abbreviations.
- Include address information.
- Do not leave any section blank.
- Use the term “not applicable” if a listed category does not apply.
Step #2: Pick the appropriate account
Identify the type of SEDI account (issuer, insider, agent). An agent account allows you to file information for insiders and issuers.
Step #3: Confidential question and answer
Enter your confidential question and answer, and then click “Next.”
Step #4: Acceptance
Review the SEDI user Terms of Acceptance. You may want to print these at this stage. If you refuse to accept the terms, the sign-in process will be terminated and your account will not be registered.
Step #5: Certification
Once you have accepted the terms, SEDI will post the completed form for your review. If the information is correct, click the “Certify” button to submit the registration form electronically. You will then be provided with a unique user ID and password to log on to the system. You will not be able to make filings on SEDI until the SEDI Operator verifies your registration and activates your account.
Click “Printer friendly version” to print your completed SEDI user registration form.
Step #6: Activating the account
To complete the process and have the account activated, agents must fax or mail a signed copy of their completed registration form to SEDI.

Agent home page
When agents log on to SEDI, they are taken to an Agent Home Page that allows them to report on insider or issuers’ activities.
Managing Profiles
Each issuer or insider must have its own profile. The agent can create insider profiles and issuer profile supplements for insiders or issuers. They can also add insiders or issuers who have already created insider profiles and issuer profile supplements to their account. SEDI’s search function allows agents to add to their list profiles for issuers or insiders on whose behalf they will be filing.
Creating an Insider Profile
To create an insider profile, the agent will need the following information:
- Insider name or company name (do not use initials or abbreviations)
- Address
- Daytime telephone number
- Fax, if available
- Email address
- A security verification question (for example: “The name of my cat when I was a child.”)
Creating an Issuer Profile Supplement
To create an issuer profile, the agent will need the following information:
- Issuer name or SEDAR profile number
- Contact name and number
- Address
- Daytime telephone number
- Fax and email, if available
- A security verification question (for example: “The name of my hamster when I was a child.”)
Safety precaution
Upon creation of a profile, you will be provided with a unique security access key that you will need in the future to modify or amend the profile.
